Your ideal customer persona avatar (i.e., your perfect customer) is an exercise that can help you put a face to the customers you hope to attract and help you understand the demographics of the people you hope to attract. A customer persona is an "idealized representation of a group of customers who share similar traits and characteristics with customers within your target market." When you think about it, this is a great approach to the design process, as you need to convey the personalities and ideas of your ideal customer in the imagery you choose to design your product.

When a customer avatar is created, it's based on carefully documenting a company's key requirements, key audiences and/or processes. The ideal customer avatar is created by first researching the characteristics of the target customer.

A good customer persona, helps you understand who that person is in his/her reality and the context in which they choose to do business with you. Customer Personas are a business marketing technique used to better understand your ideal customer and build a strategy around them.

How to map your customer avatar

A customer avatar is made up of a combination of attributes. They are potential customers: they have not yet bought a product or service or had a negative interaction with your brand. They are customers: they've tried your product and you've had a positive experience. Your ideal customer persona is based on a combination of these attributes.

Over the last decade, most business owners have received training in the art of crafting customer personas. The business owner needs to craft a marketing strategy that will appeal to their ideal customer persona, often referred to as their ideal customer avatar.

This type of analysis should be conducted when the business owner wants to understand who their customers are and their needs and wants. By looking at your business through the eyes of your ideal customer avatar, you can begin to understand your company's competition and customers wants and needs.
